Our Impact on the health sector

ZAYEDESA in collaboration with its international partners constructed and renovated hospitals, clinics and maternity units in Districts of Unguja and Pemba including; Mnazi Mmoja Hosptial (Urban West District, Unguja), Kivunge Hospital (North A District, Unguja), Ndijani Hospital (Central District, Unguja), Ukongoroni clinic (Central, Unguja), Nungwi and Tumbatu clinics (North A District), Wete Hospital (North, Pemba), Micheweni clinic (North Pemba) and also built doctors‟ houses in Tumbatu, Unguja. 

Trainings and workshops were provided for medical health personnel including nurses and midwives, and essential equipment and supplies were donated to hospitals.

Mother & Child Health Care

ZAYEDESA collaborated with international partners and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW), to deliver critical health, Key maternal and newborn health interventions to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in Zanzibar. 

ZAYEDESA‟s Community health workers were trained to deliver Focused Antenatal Care (FANC) and Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care to pregnant women in Unguja and Pemba.

Youth Friendly Health Centers

ZAYEDESA, in collaboration with its partners has also constructed and renovated 4 youth centers in Unguja and Pemba into full-fledged Youth Friendly Health Centers (YFHCs) that address young peoples‟ health needs and concerns.

The centers are located at;

  • Miembeni, Urban District near Stone Town.
  • Nungwi, Northern Unguja (Rural).
  • Paje, South East coast of Unguja (Rural).
  • Mkoani, Western coast of Pemba (Urban).
